Frequently Asked Questions

OCR & Barcode Verification FAQs

What is the difference between OCR and OCV?

OCR (Optical Character Recognition) reads unknown text characters from an image and outputs the string. OCV (Optical Character Verification) checks whether a known, expected text string (like an expiration date) is present, correctly formatted, and legible.

How do you read low-contrast DataMatrix codes etched on shiny metal parts?

We use specialized 30-degree or 45-degree low-angle darkfield illumination. This lights the dot-peen indents or laser etchings obliquely while casting specular glare away from the camera lens, creating high-contrast edges for flawless decoding.
